Whether you walk, ski or ride, three trails take you through farms, forests, fields and wetlands between Clarence Hollow, Akron and Clarence Center.
From the public parking area in the Hollow, the West Shore Trail heads 5-1/2 miles northeast to the village of Akron. A 3-1/2 mile trail heads to the southwest to Wehrle Dr.

Another trail begins at Meadow Lakes in Clarence Center and continues 7 miles in an easterly direction to Akron Junction, where it connects to the Clarence - Akron trail.

Future plans are to connect additional sections to these trails, so please encourage our elected officials to do so in a timely manner! (For our out of town guests, please encourage your elected officials to do the same in your area).

From wildlife watching to fishing, wildflower viewing to berry picking, you’re invited to actively use the trails recourses from within the boundaries of its right of way. Please respect the privacy and property of the trails neighbors and help keep the trails free of trash and debris.

A Little Clarence Hollow History*

In Clarence Hollow, the trail is the former roadbed of the New York, West Shore & Buffalo Railroad. The first passenger train to serve Clarence Hollow ran from Syracuse to Buffalo on January 1, 1884.

In Clarence Center, the 98½ mile Canandaigua & Niagara Falls Railroad operated the first train in 1853. In the 1920’s and 30’s, children took the train to North Tonawanda to attend High School. In 1856 while changing from wide to standard gauge during track laying, difficulties arose and a VP of the RR replied, “To h… with it, the line is but a peanut, anyway!”

*History from the book “History of the Town of Clarence” by Oneta M. Baker
